The story of this italian sports car begins on may 8 1953 when a bare 8v chassis was shipped from the fiat factory to carrozzeria ghia.

The fiat 8v know as the otto vu in its homeland was an advanced design when it was first unveiled at the 1952 geneva motor show.
During the early 1950s paul lazaros worked for paul farago as an engineer and machinist.
Fiat named the new model after its engine a 2 litre v8.
You might think it odd that fageol should buy a fiat through chrysler this was of course 64 years before the fiat chrysler merger of august 2014 yet the link was through the small but prestigious coachbuilder ghia of turin.

Then fifteen fiat 8vs were graced with these bodies in 1953 54 along with three jaguar xk 120s.

The fiat 8v looked nothing like the supersonic pictured above and below which has a body coachbuilt by ghia but both cars share the same chassis and drivetrain.

In 1956 the heavily modified last body was mated to an aston martin chassis.
Upon arrival the necessary steps were taken to transform the rolling chassis into the first supersonic.
The design had influenced a number of ghia specials from this period such as the 1954 desoto adventurer ii but only twenty genuine supersonic bodies were made.
Like most sophisticated chassis of the time the 8v lent itself handsomely to custom coachwork which fiat encouraged.

It was through that friendship that in 1954 fageol acquired his fiat 8v ghia supersonic body no 807.
Fiat stunned and surprised the motoring world at the 1952 geneva motor show when it introduced its next competition car the supersonic with 2 liter 8v or in italian terminology the ottov.
Ghia designed and produced a limited run of cars named supersonic with special jet age bodywork.
